Lutes Recognized Again, Ranked 28th Nationally In Preseason Poll
Pacific Lutheran will enter the 2011 baseball season ranked 28th in the first D3baseball.com poll released this past week. PLU is now ranked in the top 30 in two separate preseason polls.
The Lutes finished the 2010 season with a 30-10 overall record, which included an 18-6 record and second-place finish in the Northwest Conference standings. PLU won conference titles in 2007 and 2009 and since 2007 has compiled the top winning percentage in conference games. During that four-year period, the Lutes are 87-25 for a .777 winning percentage.
Among the top returnees from the 2010 squad are junior second baseman Corey Moore, senior centerfielder Ryan Aratani and senior relief pitcher Ryan Frost, all first team all-conference picks. Junior first baseman Brock Gates, senior shortstop Sammy Davis, senior outfielder Dan Johansen and senior pitcher Scott Wall, all of whom earned second team all-conference honors, also return to the 2011 PLU team.
The Lutes open their season from Feb. 10-13 with five games at the Desert Classic in Anthem, Ariz. Their home opener will be Feb. 26 when they play host to the St. Martin's University Saints.
