In addition to an impressive 2012 season on the field, senior first baseman Brock Gates has been recognized for his performance in the classroom.
Gates (Federal Way, Wash. / Decatur HS), a communication major with a 3.55 grade point average, was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII First Team. District VIII encompasses Division III schools from the West Coast all the way back to Iowa, Texas and Louisiana. Student athletes are nominated and voted on by their school's sports information directors. He advances for possible selection to the Capital One Academic All-America team.
On the field, Gates has been an offensive force all season long, leading Pacific Lutheran with a .406 batting average, 46 runs batted in and seven homers. In only three seasons with the program he is in position to tie or pass several Pacific Lutheran career baseball records, including runs batted in and home runs.
Pacific Lutheran concludes the regular season this weekend with three games in McMinnville, Ore. The Lutes play George Fox on Friday night, Linfield on Saturday afternoon, and Lewis-Clark State on Sunday afternoon.
