Academic All-America First Team Honors for Gates

Brock Gates

Capital One Academic All-America Team

Pacific Lutheran baseball first baseman Brock Gates had a senior season filled with many honors, and one more came his way today when he received 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division III First Team recognition.

The Capital One Academic All-America Baseball Team is selected by the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA).

Gates (Federal Way, Wash. / Decatur HS) graduated from Pacific Lutheran University this past weekend. A communication major with a 3.55 grade point average, the senior slugger led the Lutes with a .407 batting average, seven home runs and 47 runs batted in. He earned Northwest Conference Player of the Year honors and received third team All-America recognition from d3baseball.com.

Gates becomes the fourth Pacific Lutheran student-athlete to earn Capital One Academic All-America First Team accord this year. Men's soccer player Aaron Grossberg (Corvallis, Ore. / Crescent Valley HS) was honored in the fall, and softball players Stacey Hagensen (Bellevue, Wash. / Newport HS) and Kaaren Hatlen (Woodinville, Wash. / Woodinville HS) were named last week.
