Gates Selected to All-West Region First Team

Another postseason award has come to Brock Gates, as the Pacific Lutheran first baseman has been selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-West Region First Team.

Gates (Federal Way, Wash. / Decatur HS) led the Lutes to a 24-16 overall record and to a third-place finish in the Northwest Conference standings. He led the Lutes with a .407 batting average, seven home runs and 47 runs batted in.

Gates earned 2012 Northwest Conference Player of the Year honors and was a two-time first team All-Northwest Conference pick. Additionally, Gates has been named to the d3baseball.com All-America Third Team, and off the field he earned 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division III First Team accord.

Gates, a communication major with a 3.55 grade point average, recently graduated from Pacific Lutheran University.

Jacob Hoffman (Fircrest, Wash. / Curtis HS), a sophomore designated hitter on the 2012 PLU team, earned ABCA All-West Region Second Team accord after compiling a .344 batting average, four home runs and 32 runs batted in.

In his two seasons at PLU, Hoffman has twice earned All-Northwest Conference first team honors.
