Loggers Drop Lutes 4-2 in Resumption of Cheney Game

Loggers Drop Lutes 4-2 in Resumption of Cheney Game

Written by Student Assistant Christian Bond

TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University baseball team restarted their non-conference game against University of Puget Sound, but couldn't muster a run as they fell 4-2 on Monday.

This game started at Cheney Stadium, home of the Tacoma Rainiers, on Tuesday, April 4. Kory VanderStaay had driven in two runs to tie the game at two, before the game was paused due to rain. Chad Gideon pitched all four innings that were left in the contest. He gave up five hits and a walk. The freshman allowed one earned run while striking out three.

"Chad was decent today," Head Coach Nolan Soete said. "He made a few mistakes and left some balls up in the zone, but he battled for us."

The Lutes (22-13) will play non-conference games this weekend. They play George Fox University on Friday at 3 p.m. Then on Saturday, the Lutes play Linfield College and Pacific University in a double header, with both taking place at Pacific. The first game starts at 2 p.m. with game two to follow at 5 p.m. On Sunday, PLU plays Pacific at noon.
