Hegge One Stroke Off Pace in NWC Men's Golf

KENNEWICK - Dustin Hegge carded a three-under par 69 on the par 72, 6,683-yard Canyon Lakes Golf Course layout and is one stroke off the pace after Saturday opening day of the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Tournament.

Hegge's outstanding round helped Pacific Lutheran to a 303 total, good for a third-place tie with Puget Sound. Led by Alex Fitch's four-under-par 68, Linfield is in first place with a 293, followed by Whitworth at 298. After PLU and Puget Sound is Pacific at 311, Willamette 314, Whitman 319, George Fox 325 and Lewis & Clark 376.

Hegge won the NWC Fall Classic and placed fourth at the NWC Spring Classic, putting him in the running for NWC Player of the Year honors. His opening round score in this tournament keeps that a strong possibility.

Tim Livermore has PLU's second-best score, a 76, followed by Daron Casey and Sam Hodge, both at 79.

"This is the third conference major and we have gone into the second round in the top three in all of them," PLU head coach Kris Swanson said.
