Pacific Lutheran opens its 2012 fall men's golf season on Sunday and Monday when it joins a field of seven other Northwest Conference team at the Whitman Invitational held at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla.
Joining PLU and Whitman are Linfield, Whitworth, Puget Sound, Willamette, George Fox and Lewis & Clark.
This year's team is paced by defending Northwest Conference Player of the Year Dustin Hegge and by sophomore Tim Livermore, but after that a handful of freshmen could have a huge impact on the Lutes' success.
In fall team qualifying, Lee was an early leader after carding rounds of 73 and 72, so third-year PLU head coach Kris Swanson thinks this could be a breakthrough year for his team.
Hegge earned Northwest Conference Player of the Year honors during the 2011-12 season by virtue of top-three finishes in the conference's "major" tournaments, the NWC Fall Classic, NWC Spring Classic and NWC Championship. He was medalist at both the NWC Fall Classic and Whitworth Invitational during the fall 2011 season.
