RIDGEFIELD, Wash. - Dustin Hegge took a successful first step in defense of his medalist award from a year ago, carding a one-under-par 71 Saturday to take the first day lead at the NWC Fall Classic men's golf tournament being held at Tri-Mountain Golf Course.
Hegge, a junior, took a one-stroke lead over Stephen Plopper from Whitworth and Derek Wilson from Puget Sound. Aleks Gabrio from George Fox, Joshua Mau from Pacific and Jesse Salzwedel from Whitworth are all two strokes off the pace.
Whitworth is the team leader in the clubhouse with a 301, with Puget Sound one stroke back and Pacific Lutheran holding down third after an opening 309. Rounding out the team scoring are George Fox at 315, Linfield 318, Whitman 320, Willamette 326, Lewis & Clark 333 and Pacific 337.
The tournament concludes on Sunday with another 18-hole round over the par 72, 6,580-yard Tri-Mountain layout.
