Men's Soccer Reaps All-Conference Rewards
John Yorke earned Northwest Conference men's soccer Coach of the Year honors, and four of his players received first team recognition in a vote of the NWC coaches.
Senior midfielder Jason Bjorgo (Redmond, Wash. / Eastlake HS) was a repeat All-Northwest Conference first team selection for PLU after finishing the season with five goals and four assists. Senior defender Derek MacLean (Seattle, Wash. / Kennedy HS), twice a second team all-conference pick, was named to the first team after helping to anchor the PLU defense. MacLean finished the season with three assists. Also named to the first team for the first time were senior midfielder Andy Hyres (Wilkeson, Wash. / White River HS) and sophomore forward Chad Kearns (Seattle, Wash. / Roosevelt HS). Hyres ended the year with four goals and a team-high nine assists, while Kearns led the Lutes with 11 goals in addition to recording two assists.
Yorke's peers selected him as NWC Coach of the Year for the second time after he led this year's team to a 14-5-0 overall record and an 11-3-0 mark in conference, good for a second-place finish. He previously won the award in 2003.
