PLU Men's Soccer Picked Second in Preseason Poll
Northwest Conference coaches predict that Pacific Lutheran will finish behind heavy favorite and three-time defending champion Whitworth, according to the NWC preseason coaches poll released Wednesday.
The Lutes received one first place vote and 55 total points to rank between the Pirates and the Pacific Boxers. The Pirates received six first place votes and a total of 67 points, with the Boxers receiving the final first place tally.
Pacific Lutheran finished last year in second place, and the Lutes will look to All-NWC forwards Chad Kearns and Spencer Augustin to lead the team to its first conference championship since 1992.
Whitworth will have to overcome the loss of NWC MVP Elly Bulega and defensive standout Bryan Olson from a 2009 team that advanced to the NCAA Division III elite eight following its fifth conference championship in six years.
