Grossberg, Augustin Earn Academic All-America Honors

Pacific Lutheran University mens soccer team's Aaron Grossberg and Spencer Augustin have been given top academic honors as they have been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Men's Soccer Teams, presented by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).

Grossberg (Corvallis, Ore. / Crescent Valley HS) earned First Team Academic All-America after maintaining a 3.97 cumulative GPA while majoring in biology.  He was also a Capital One Academic All-District VIII First Team this season and an academic all-region honoree by the national coaches association in 2010, and started all 19 of PLU's games this season at outside back. The honor makes Grossberg just the third PLU athlete in school history to earn CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American.

Augustin (Anchorage, Alaska / South Anchorage HS) has been named to the second team.  He has a 3.39 grade point average as a biology major.  Augustin finished among the national leaders in goals and points (19 goals, nine assists).  He was also named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII First Team this year.

"Aaron and Spencer have both truly represented the full meaning of being a student athlete," PLU head coach John Yorke said. "It is no accident that their successes in the classroom are mirrored by their success on the soccer field. It take a different type of discipline to be intensely devoted to both.

"We are proud of them and are thankful for their contributions to PLU men's soccer."

The Lutes placed three players on the Capital One Academic All-District VIII First Team (Grossberg, Augustin, and Joe Rayburn) and one on the Capital One Academic All-District VIII Second Team (Chad Kearns).

Grossberg and Augustin were the only players from the Northwest Conference on the Capital One Academic All-America teams.
