TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team knocked off the rust after an extended layoff from competition, blowing away Southwestern Oregon Community College 107-60 on Saturday in a non-conference dual meet.
"It was great to get out in the pool after having an extended layoff from competition," said Head Coach Matt Sellman. "The times weren't the fastest but we had some fun and people were able to swim some events they don't usually compete in."
Paul Jett led the way for the Lutes, winning two individual events while also securing a victory as a member of the 200-medley relay. Jett along with Bryson Baligad, Dennis Liu, and Jacob Goodman opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, touching the wall in one minute, 39.28 seconds. Jett bested the field in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.45 before claiming the 200-yard butterfly in 2:08.30.
Baligad earned the win in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a 1:50.71 while Elijah Singstad prevailed in the 100-yard freestyle (49.55). Bradley Jerome won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.49 while Bennon VanHoof secured top billing in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.64).
"I'm really looking forward to the next four weeks before NWC Championships."
The Lutes resume their Northwest Conference slate on Friday, hosting Whitworth University at 6 p.m.
