TACOMA, Wash. -Jacob Goodman won three events, powering the Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team to a dominating 139-66 victory over Willamette University in a Northwest Conference dual at the PLU Pool.
Goodman teamed up with James Buchanan, Dennis Liu, and Paul Jett to open the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, stopping the clock in one minute, 37.80 seconds. The junior led the Lutes to a one-two-three finish in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 22.16 followed by Liu (22.53) and Elijah Singstad (22.58). Goodman completing the hat-trick later in the meet with a win in the 100-yard freestyle (48.73), spearheading another 1-2-3 Lute finish. Bradley Jerome was runner-up in 50.18 with Phillip Hecksel placing third (50.24).
Jeffrey Lozensky Jr. logged a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle, finishing in 10:26.31 while Bryson Baligad took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.33. Jett raced to the win in the 100-yard butterfly (53.35) while Buchanan (54.66) and Kekoa Vieira (58.85) claimed the top two spots in the 100-yard backstroke.
Liu won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.27 with Seth Koivisto second in 1:02.28 while the Lutes wrapped up the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, ending the night with victories in nine of the 11 events contested. The winning relay of Jett, Jerome, Baligad, and Singstad finished in 1:28.92.
"It was a fun meet," said Head Coach Matt Sellman. "The team really swam much better than anticipated, considering the workload they have handled in recent weeks. We were an enthusiastic and positive group tonight and we look forward to carrying that into tomorrow's matchup. It should be fun!"
PLU has limited rest, returning to the pool tomorrow at 1 p.m. to take on Linfield College.
