The Ojai Tournament generally attracts all of the best Division III players on the West Coast, so it probably isn't surprising that all of Pacific Lutheran's singles and doubles players were eliminated during Friday's opening action.
Of the four PLU players entered in the singles draw, only junior Kevin Floyd won his first-round match, defeating Donald James of UC Santa Cruz, 6-1, 6-1. Floyd then lost a second-round contest to No. 8 seed Robbie Erani of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 6-2, 6-1.
Losing their first-round matches were junior Joel Trudel, who fell to UCSC's Colin Mark-Griffin, 6-4, 6-1, senior James Crosetto, who lost to Cal Lutheran's Paul Wetterholm, 6-2, 6-3, and junior Michael Manser, a 6-2, 6-3 victim of Pomona-Pitzer's Uday Singh.
In Friday afternoon doubles matches, Manser and Zack AhYat lost to No. 8 seed Charlie Cutler and John Watts of Washington University, 8-2, while Trudel and Justin Peterson dropped an 8-3 decision to Eric MacColl and Guillaume Schils of Claremont-Mudd Scripps.
