LA MIRADA, Calif. - Zack AhYat and Sam Angel both recorded singles victories but Pacific Lutheran came out on the short end of a 7-2 men's tennis decision to the Biola University Eagles in a match played Monday afternoon.
AhYat defeated Weston Leopold, 7-6 (7-3), 6-0, at No. 1 singles, and Angel put a bookend on the other end of singles play, beating Greg Cobian, 7-5, 6-3, in the No. 6 match.
Taylor Dickey pushed Brent Worthington to a super tiebreaker at No. 3 singles before dropping a 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (12-10) match.
The Eagles picked up straight set wins while losing only six total games at the other three positions.
"Today's match was closer than the score," PLU head coach Rocky Poulin said. "A couple of points here and there and it could have been a 4-5 match."
Pacific Lutheran, 1-2 in California and 5-6 overall, finishes its spring break trip on Wednesday when it plays at Chapman.
