TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis squad dropped a 9-0 decision to undefeated Lewis & Clark College on Sunday in a Northwest Conference dual match inside the Sprinker Recreation Center.
"We faced a really tough team today in the Pioneers," said Head Coach John Cassens. "No. 1 and No. 2 doubles played well against very strong teams and Adams dropped a third set tiebreaker to a power player."
In doubles, PLU's (2-4, 2-3 NWC) No. 1 tandem of Ryan Adams and James Okubo dropped an 8-4 decision to the Pioneers' (7-0, 7-0 NWC) regionally ranked pair of Brendon Barrows and Gordon Barrows while Niko Convento and Justin DeMattos hung tough in an 8-5 setback at No. 2.
In singles play, Adams pushed Raed Attia to a third set tiebreaker but ultimately fell, 6-4, 4-6, 10-4, at No. 1. Convento dropped a, 6-2, 6-1, decision at No. 2 while John Woelfel stumbled, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 6.
The Lutes begin a five match road trip next weekend, heading to Oregon to face George Fox University on Saturday at 12 p.m.
