SALEM, Ore. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis squad closed its Oregon excursion on a positive note on Sunday afternoon, overwhelming host Willamette University 7-2 in a Northwest Conference dual match at the WU Tennis Courts.

"It was an incredible team effort today and I'm really proud of how the team rallied around each other to get the win," said Head Coach John Cassens.

The Lutes (3-5, 3-4 NWC) got things going early, winning two of the three doubles matches. Ryan Adams and James Okubo secured a 9-7 victory at No. 1 doubles while Justin DeMattos and Niko Convento prevailed at No. 2 by an identical scoreline.

In singles, PLU secured the top five singles matches. Adams collected the win at No. 1 singles, disposing of the Bearcats' (1-7, 1-6 NWC) Gunnar Lee, 6-4, 6-3, while Convento earned the, 6-0, 6-0, decision at No. 2. Okubo prevailed, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3 while DeMattos and Chan Thourk claimed wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. DeMattos dispensed his opponent, 6-3, 6-2, while Thourk netted the, 6-4, 6-1, win.

The Lutes take next weekend off before heading to California over spring break to face Biola University on Mar. 28 in the first of three matches in the Golden State.
