FULLERTON, Calif. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team hit the court for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, dropping a 7-2 decision to host Hope International University at the La Habra Tennis Center.
"I'm excited for John Woelfel getting his first career singles win today," said Head Coach John Cassens. "Ryan Adams had a good match too but fell just short against one of the top NAIA singles players in the country."
Chan Thourk and John Woelfel headlined the day for the Lutes (3-7), both collecting victories in singles play. Thourk secured a three-set win at No. 5, dropping the Royals' (3-8) Avi Bami 15-13 in the third set tiebreaker en route to the, 7-6, 0-6, 1-0, win. Woelfel prevailed at No. 6 singles with a, 6-3, 6-4, decision at the expense of Andres Rivas. Ryan Adams dropped a tough match at No. 1, going three sets before falling, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7), to Nauricio Mosquera, the NAIA West Region's fourth-ranked singles player.
The Lutes wrap up their California trip on Thursday afternoon, facing Occidental College at 4 p.m.
