LAKEWOOD, Wash. - Ryan Adams collected his third consecutive victory at No. 1 singles but the Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team fell 8-1 to regionally-ranked Pacific University in a Northwest Conference dual match on Sunday at the Lakewood Racket Club.
Adams led the way for the Lutes (3-10, 3-6 NWC), securing a, 6-1, 6-4, victory over regionally-ranked Oscar Wight at No. 1 singles. Wight entered the match ranked 22nd in the West Region while Adams collected his third consecutive victory, upping his season record to 8-8 and 5-4 in conference play.
"Ryan is on an impressive three-match win streak after beating a very strong number one from Pacific today," said Head Coach John Cassens.
The Boxers (9-5, 6-2 NWC), ranked 10th in the West Region, earned a sweep of doubles play. Adams and Convento proved to be a tough out at No. 1, hanging around before eventually ending up on the wrong side of an 8-6 decision.
Sunday's match was the Lutes' fifth match over the last six days. PLU's spring break journey included three matches in California, one in Oregon, and today's home match in Lakewood. The Lutes will get some well deserved rest before returning to the courts on Friday, hosting Whitworth University at 4 p.m.
