TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team will carry its success from last weekend to its final matches of the season in Spokane as they take on Community Colleges of Spokane on Saturday and Whitworth University on Sunday.
The Lutes fell in match one last Saturday to Whitman College, 7-2. Niko Convento won both his singles and doubles matches on the afternoon but it was not enough for the Lutes. On Sunday, PLU (6-10, 2-5 NWC) defeated Bellevue College 6-3. Niko Convento, Chan Thourk, Branson Near, and John Woelfel all won their singles matches. Justin DeMattos and Chan Thourk soared in the No. 2 doubles match 8-6 while Branson Near and John Woelfel won the No. 3 doubles match 8-5.
A major asset for the Lutes this season has been sophomore standout Niko Convento. Convento has compiled 13 wins so far this season in the singles matches and has played the whole season in the No. 1 position. The Graham, Washington native believes the best has yet to come for the Lutes.
"I am very pleased with how are season went. Our team overall has showed great improvement on and off the court, but there is still work to be done to reach the next level," said Convento.
The Lutes will travel to Spokane, Washington to match up with Community Colleges of Spokane at 3 p.m. on Saturday and then face Northwest Conference foe, Whitworth (3-13, 3-3 NWC), to end the season on Sunday at 11 a.m.
