LOWELL, Ore. - Pacific Lutheran competed in three races at the Covered Bridge Regatta held Saturday on Dexter Lake. The women's varsity 8 had the top finish, placing third in a six-boat field.

The PLU men's varsity 4 placed fifth in an eight-boat field, clocking 7:11.08 in a race won by Seattle Pacific in a time of 6:56.97. PLU coach Tone Lawver said that that team had a substantial time improvement, approximately 38 seconds, from a week ago.

The women's junior varsity 8 ended up last in a three-boat race, clocking 8:00.92 compared to Willamette's winning effort of 7:38.66. The team had a strong first-half of the race but couldn't contend with Willamette's dominance in the final 1,000 meters.

Finally, the women's varsity 8 ended up third, hitting the finish line in a time of 7:24.76, behind Willamette's winning 7:16.37. PLU, which led through the first 250 meters, improved its time from a week ago by eight seconds.

Next up for the Lutes is the NCRC Championships at Lake Stevens. "Going into the race we should be ranked third in the conference among Division III schools and fourth overall," Lawver said.
