Men's Varsity 8+ Rows Away from Seattle Pacific

LAKEWOOD - With intermittent snow and rain falling on an otherwise relatively calm American Lake, Pacific Lutheran won the men's varsity 8+ by more than 20 seconds in a dual regatta against Seattle Pacific on Saturday morning.

The race results are as follows:

Men's Varsity 4+: 1. SPU 7:28.8; 2. PLU 7:40.6

Men's 2nd Varsity 4+: 1. SPU 8:00.3; 2. PLU 8:03.9

Women's Varsity 4+: 1. SPU 8:46; 2. SPU 8:49; 3. PLU 9:26

Men's Varsity 8+: 1. PLU 6:43.7; 2. SPU 7:07.1

Women's Varsity 8+: 1. SPU 7:33.4; 2. PLU 7:36.5

"I'm proud of our men's and women's performances," PLU head coach Thomas Schlenker said. Our 4+s were new lineups for the men and women and they put together several strong crews in a short amount of time; they rowed well today. Our Varsity 8+s both looked clean off the start and took a one length lead in the first few hundred meters. The women held the lead for 1,800 meters until SPU, who always has a strong last 500 meters, pulled ahead in the final sprint. The men took the same lead over SPU at the start and continued to walk away, extending their lead to 23.4 seconds by the finish line.

"SPU has strong crews every year and they are always great opponents and guests. We have had our dual with them going for years and we plan to keep it around for a while."
