VANCOUVER - Pacific Lutheran won the men's varsity 4 event and placed fourth in the championship final of the women's varsity 8 at the NCRC Invitational held Saturday at Lake Vancouver.
The men's varsity 4 clocked 7:12.0 to finish ahead of Puget Sound, which came across the line in 7:18.9. Willamette, Oregon and Portland State were the other teams in the event.
The women's varsity 8 won its preliminary race in a time of 7:16.9, beating Willamette by just less than three seconds. Racing a little more than three hours later, the Lutes placed fourth in the 10-boat field with a time of 7:24.1. Humboldt State won the event with a time of 7:05.4, followed by Puget Sound in 7:14.1 and Lewis & Clark in 7:19.2.
In the men's varsity 8 competition the Lutes placed fourth in their heat with a time of 6:34.8. Western Washington took first with a time of 6:24.7, followed by Humboldt State, Lewis & Clark, PLU and Puget Sound.
PLU's men's novice 4 boat placed third in its heat with a time of 7:53.9 and they were sixth overall. Oregon State won the race wtih a time of 7:02.5.
PLU placed third in its heat of the women's varsity 4, clocking 8:17.5, while Humboldt State had the fastest time of the two heats with a 7:47.6.
