Junior Kaaren Hatlen has earned dual Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week honors for her play in the Lutes weekend sweep's of Willamette University and defending national champion Linfield College.
Hatlen was voted as softball player and pitcher of the week after leading the Lutes to 4-3 and 7-3 wins over Willamette and 9-5 and 6-2 victories over Linfield. In those four PLU road victories, the junior pitcher/designated player hit .700 (7-for-10), belted three home runs and three doubles, and drove in six runs. As a pitcher, she was 1-0 in two starts.
Saturday against Willamette, Hatlen hit a double and a home run in the first game of the doubleheader helping the Lutes to a 4-3 win.
The next day, she played a starring role in the Lutes' two wins over Linfield, which is the defending NCAA Division III national champion. From the plate, Hatlen went 5-for-7 with two double and two home runs. From the pitching circle, Hatlen pitched the full seven innings in the second game of the doubleheader, surrending only 2 earned runs on five hits to the power-packed Linfield lineup.
