You may not have known it, but Governor Christine Gregoire has proclaimed today as Pacific Lutheran University Softball Day.
On Thursday, the Governor signed a proclamation honoring the Pacific Lutheran team for winning the NCAA Division III national championship. The Lutes defeated defending national champion and Northwest Conference rival Linfield College, 3-0, on Monday in Salem, Va.
PLU President Dr. Loren Anderson announced the proclamation in an email to the PLU community:
"We know all Lutes are bursting with pride over our softball championship. Now the entire state has joined in cheering for the team! We were just notified that the celebration of our softball victories took another step into the big time when Gov. Chris Gregoire declared today, May 25, as PLU Softball Day in Washington State. I thought you'd like to hear of this news as we enter a grand commencement weekend. Go Lutes!"
