In case you wondered, Pacific Lutheran did indeed finish No. 1 in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 national poll.
The Lutes (45-11), who won eight straight postseason games on the way to garnering the program's first-ever NCAA Division III national crown, received all eight first-place votes and 200 points. PLU's Northwest Conference rival Linfield (46-7), which the Lutes defeated 3-0 in the championship game, finished second in the voting with all eight second-place votes on the way to 192 points. Of Linfield's seven losses, six came against Pacific Lutheran, including two at the national tournament.
PLU had entered national postseason play ranked No. 4 in the country with a 37-11 record and after beating host Linfield in the Northwest Conference tournament championship game.
Rounding out the top five were No. 3 Montclair State (N.J.), No. 4 Tufts (Mass.) and No. 5 Luther (Iowa). PLU defeated Montclair State, 2-1 in 12 innings, and Luther, 8-0 in five innings, at the national tournament.
Pacific Lutheran had not been ranked No. 1 in the NFCA Division III national poll since the 2003 season when the team lost to eventual national champion Central (Iowa) in a regional tournament final.
