Michael Brasgalla, who will be a senior on the Pacific Lutheran swimming team next season, has been voted by his peers as the Northwest Conference Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president for the 2012-13 school year.
Brasgalla (Farmington, Minn. / Farmington HS), a two-year PLU SAAC member representing the men's swimming team, was nominated by fellow PLU SAAC member Madison Sehlke, and the conference SAAC representatives voted for Brasgalla in a conference meeting held March 4 at Pacific Lutheran University.
He will begin his one-year term on Aug. 1, 2012.
The NWC SAAC, made up of student-athletes representing all nine conference schools, meets once in the fall and once in the spring. The group presents institutional updates and information on their SAAC groups, determines the NWC SAAC position on NCAA legislation, participates in conference-wide initiatives and activities, and provides the student-athlete perspective on NWC-related topics such as championships.
"In his role as president, Michael will be working directly with the conference office in planning upcoming NWC SAAC meetings, communicating with conference SAAC representatives from each institution, and acting as a liaison to the NWC athletic administrator group for any relevant toipics that are seeking the SAAC perspective," said Jennifer Thomas, PLU assistant athletic director and PLU SAAC advisor.
Brasgalla is the second Pacific Lutheran student-athlete to serve in this role. Missy Waldron, who played softball at PLU, was NWC SAAC president during the 2008-09 school year.
