Brian Ruggles won all six of the races in which he competed in his first two collegiate dual meets and as a result has been honored by the Northwest Conference as its Male Swimmer of the Week.
Ruggles (Issaquah, Wash. / Issaquah HS) helped lead the PLU men to home victories over Lewis & Clark and Pacific. He took the 200 individual medley (2:04.43) and the 100 freestyle (49.67) on Friday night against Lewis & Clark, and then came back on Saturday to win the 50 freestyle (22.35) and the 100 breaststroke (1:02.49) against Pacific. He also swam on winning medley relay teams in both meets.
"Brian is such a great addition to our team. He has come into PLU and our team, eager and willing to soak it all up, to really have an incredible experience as a student athlete," PLU head coach Matt Sellman said. "That great attitude meshes so well with our team culture, and that combined with an impressive work ethic and talent will get him far. He will be a standout for us for a long time."
