PORTLAND, Ore. - Samantha Kelleigh and Lacey Nicholson both finished in double figures but it was not enough for the Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team on Friday night, getting outdistanced 93-47 by Lewis & Clark College in the Northwest Conference season opener inside the Pamplin Sports Center.
Kelleigh paced the Lutes (0-5, 0-1 NWC), pouring on 15 points, including a trio of three-pointers while Nicholson tallied 14 points along with a team-high five boards and four steals.
Pacific Lutheran trailed by three after one quarter of action before tying the contest at 16 early in the second quarter on a Kelleigh three. PLU stayed within a possession of the host Pioneers (5-1, 1-0 NWC) before Lewis & Clark closed the half on a 11-2 run to take a 36-24 advantage at the intermission. The Pios owned a lead the entire second half in the NWC opener for both squads.
The Lutes are back on the court tomorrow afternoon, closing its opening NWC road swing at 4 p.m. against Pacific University.
