Women's Golf Plays Host in Spring Season Opener
SPRING OPENER: Pacific Lutheran will open its women's golf 2012 spring season when it hosts the PLU Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at Oakbrook Golf & Country Club in Lakewood. The first tee time on both days is 10:47 a.m. Teams competing in the event in addition to PLU are Puget Sound, Whitworth, Whitman, Pacific, Linfield, Willamette and George Fox.
IT'S BEEN AWHILE: The Lutes last played a competitive round on Oct. 23 when they wrapped up a two-day appearance at the NWC Fall Classic by placing sixth. George Fox won the team championship for the second straight year, shooting a 313-312 for a two-day total of 625, 13 strokes better than runner-up Whitman's 638 (320-318). Rounding out the team scores were Willamette 671 (342-329), Linfield 679 (340-339), Whitworth 681 (344-337), Pacific Lutheran 712 (357-355), Pacific 781 (403-378), and Puget Sound 884 (448-436). Lewis & Clark did not have a complete team.
SMALLER SQUAD: PLU has a smaller squad for the spring season after a couple of players decided not to return after the fall. The four team members are senior Karina Shelton, sophomore Julie Heffernan, and frosh Kristina Norlin and Paige Henry. Norlin had the best fall of the four, averaging 91.0 strokes in the team's five rounds. Heffernan averaged 92.2, Henry 92.6 and Shelton 96.8 in PLU's three tournaments.
