LAKEWOOD - George Fox defeated Whitman by two strokes for the team title and Pacific Lutheran placed fifth at the PLU Invitational women's golf tournament that concluded after a two-day run at Oakbrook Golf & Country Club.
Sunday's second round was shortened to nine holes because of hail on the greens, but that was only part of the story as George Fox and Whitman battled for the team title.
Whitman shot a 328 on Saturday and led George Fox by a stroke. In the nine-hole second round, George Fox shot a 162 for a two-day total of 491, compared to Whitman's 165 on the second day and a 493 total.
Rounding out the team scores were Linfield with 357-169 - 526, Whitworth 356-173 - 529, PLU 372-188 - 560, Pacific 386-189 - 575, and Puget Sound 453-218 - 671.
Kelsey Morrison from George Fox was the tournament medalist, shooting rounds of 80 and 38 for a two-day total of 10-over-par 118, one stroke bettern than Whitman's Tate Head, who shot 77-42 - 119. Head had carded the low score on Saturday, while Morrison shared Sunday low score honors with teammate Jill Westendorf, Whitworth's Emily Guthrie, and Linfield's Hannah Christianson.
Guthrie finished in a three-way tie with Whitman's Katie Zajicek and Westendorf for third in the tournament at 121. Westendorf was competing as an individual player and did not count toward the George Fox team total.
