TACOMA, Wash. – After spending a little less than a month away from competition, the Pacific Lutheran University women's golf team is traveling to Walla Walla, Washington to play in the Whitman Invitational at Wine Valley Golf Club.
The last time the team played was in the UPS invitational at Gold Mountain Golf Course on March 4th and 5th. The Lutes finished third with strong performances from Desirae Haselwood and Jeankie-Jhen Aczon. Haselwood led the Lutes at the two-round event, finishing fifth overall with a 164, shooting an 82 for both of her rounds. Aczon was two strokes back in sixth place, collecting a 166 (79-87).
"I'm really excited to compete this weekend," Haselwood said. "In the last month since our last tournament the team has really been working on our mental game and getting some swing work in as well. It's the last official travel tournament for the season as our next two events are close to campus so I'm excited to have a weekend in the sun and have a great time with my teammates."
Madison LaVergne and Anna Jessen finished 12th and 15th in the tournament. LaVergne shot a 172 through two rounds, while Jessen shot a 174. Sami Briney and Anela Barber finished just outside the top 20 at 21st and 22nd.
"I would just like my team to have fun this weekend," Haselwood explained. "We have worked really hard this season to juggle golf and classes and preparing for what comes next year as there are several seniors on the team. I expect us to soak up our last few events and really cherish the opportunities we have left. If we can all enjoy ourselves and trust our preparation, I know we can be successful."
The Lutes will tee off on Saturday against a field that will include Northwest Conference rivals Linfield College, University of Puget Sound, Whitworth University, and host Whitman College.
