Sara Griffin, the assistant PGA Golf Professional at Tacoma Country & Golf Club, was named Pacific Lutheran women’s golf coach in 2016.

In her first season at the helm, the Lutes secured the team title at the Whitworth Invitational while placing fifth at the 2017 Northwest Conference Championships. PLU logged top three finishes in six of its nine tournaments in 2016-2017 while coaching a Second Team All-NWC selection in Jeankie-Jhen Aczon.

A 1996 graduate at Oregon State, Griffin compete all four years for the Beavers, qualifying for the Far West Regional team in 1994 and 1995.  After graduation, she competed in various Pacific Northwest Section PGA events and has been teaching since 2006.

She started her coaching career as an assistant women’s golf coach at OSU following graduation and was the head women’s golf coach at the University of San Francisco from 1997 to 2005.  Under her leadership, the Dons achieved five consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament appearances and won the 2001 West Coach Conference Championship. She was named the WCC Coach of the Year in 2001.

"I am very excited to have the opportunity to coach the PLU women's golf team," said Griffin.  "Mike has built an incredible foundation for the women's golf program and he is leaving me with an amazing group of women to work with.  I look forward to coaching at the Division III level where the holistic development of each student is most important."
