Defensive Women's Soccer Game Goes to Linfield, 1-0
PARKLAND - Emily Fellows, Linfield's record-setting goal scorer, notched the game's only tally in the 12th minute as the visiting Wildcats beat host Pacific Lutheran, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match played Saturday at East Field.
The contest was a defensive struggle throughout as Linfield, now 12-1-2 overall and 8-1-2 in the conference, managed just seven shots compared to four for PLU, 4-3-6 overall and 2-3-6 in the NWC.
Fellows scored her 14th goal of the season, getting the ball inside the six yard box and beating PLU keeper Marisa Gonzalez. That, as it turned out, was Linfield's only shot on goal as the PLU defense had a strong performance against the Wildcats, who are tied with Whitworth for the conference lead.
While the Lutes managed only four shots, they put three on target against Linfield keeper Taylor Collinsworth. She was up to the challenge, however, and won her 12th match of the season.
Corner kicks went in favor of Linfield, 3-2.
For the third time this season, PLU plays the back end of a home-and-away weekend as it travels to Oregon for a Sunday afternoon match against Lewis & Clark College in Portland.
