Lutes Host College of Idaho on Friday

THIS WEEK: Pacific Lutheran (2-10 overall, 2-9 Northwest Conference) hosts College of Idaho, Friday, 3:30 p.m.

COYOTES IN TOWN: Taking a break from Northwest Conference play, the Pacific Lutheran women's tennis team hosts College of Idaho at 3:30 p.m. Friday on the PLU outdoor courts. The visiting Coyotes are 0-2 this year, losing 9-0 matches to Utah State and Weber State, both NCAA Division I programs.

LUTES FALL TO NWC POWERS: Pacific Lutheran dropped a pair of conference matches last weekend as visiting Whitman and Whitworth took wins from the Lutes. On Friday, Pacific Lutheran picked up a win in both doubles and singles play but could manage no more as the visiting Whitman Missionaries took a 7-2 win at the UPS Tennis Pavilion. Ali Burnside and Deanna Ellmer battled Whitman's Charlotte Scott and Dena Wessel in the third doubles match until the Lutes duo finally prevailed 9-8 (12-10). In singles play, PLU's Cora Wigen and Whitman's Hadley DeBree split sets, 6-1, 4-6, before Wigen won the super-tiebreaker, 10-6. One day later, the Pirates ranked No. 6 in the West Region of Division III women's tennis, lost only four games in doubles and just nine in the six singles matches on the way to a 9-0 triumph.
