Lutes Unable to Get Past George Fox, Fall 6-3

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Leah Newell and Cora Wigen both rallied from one-set deficits to win three-set singles matches, but host George Fox came out on top of Pacific Lutheran, 6-3, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match played Saturday morning at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.

The Lutes are 0-6 overall this season and 0-5 in the conference, while the host Bruins improved to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the NWC.

George Fox won two of the three doubles matches to take an early lead. PLU's Katherine Patton and Allison McClure won their second straight match at No. 3, defeating Alissandra Wittrig and Bethany Nguyen, 8-6.

PLU was victorious in the top two singles matches, Newell beating Molly Beaumont 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, and Wigen taking Alyssa Emoto 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Tina Aarsvold went the distance at No. 3 singles but fell to Shaina Inn, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7).

George Fox won the remaining three singles matches in straight sets.

Pacific Lutheran returns to their Sprinker Tennis Center home next weekend when it hosts Pacific at 3:30 p.m. Friday and Willamette at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
