THIS WEEKEND: Pacific Lutheran returns home this weekend for a pair of Northwest Conference women's tennis matches at Sprinker Tennis Center. PLU hosts Pacific at 3:30 p.m. Friday and Willamette at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
LOOKING FOR FIRST WIN: The Lutes are looking for their first victory of the season as they host the Boxers and Bearcats. PLU is 0-6 this season, including a 0-4 record against conference opponents. The program has suffered 17 consecutive defeats dating back to early March of last season.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: Pacific enters Friday's match with a 4-3 overall record and a 3-3 mark against the conference. PLU has a 31-5 all-time series record against Pacific, winning the first 31 in a row and losing the five most recent contests. Willamette is 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference with close losses to Whitman and Pacific. The Lutes are 31-8 all-time against Willamette but have lost the last six straight to the Bearcats.
LAST WEEK: Pacific Lutheran lost twice last weekend in Oregon, falling to Linfield 8-1 and to George Fox 6-3. PLU's Katherine Patton and Allison McClure won both of their matches at No. 3 doubles. On Friday they beat Linfield's Katherine Allison and Gretchen Jernstedt, 8-3, and on Saturday they defeated George Fox's Alissandra Wittrig and Bethany Nguyen, 8-6. Leah Newell and Cora Wigen both rallied from one-set deficits to win three-set singles matches against George Fox in PLU's other wins from the weekend. Newell beat Molly Beaumont 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, and Wigen topped Alyssa Emoto 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Tina Aarsvold went the distance at No. 3 singles but fell to Shaina Inn, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7).
