CLAREMONT, Calif. - Four days after their originally scheduled match was postponed by rain, the University of La Verne defeated the visiting Pacific Lutheran Lutes, 7-2, in a non-conference women's tennis match played Thursday at The Claremont Club.
In doubles, the Lutes were able to win at No. 1 as Leah Newell and Tina Aarsvold topped the tandem of Laina Matsuda and Allison Moncrief. La Verne would notch wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 2-1 lead in team points entering singles.
Newell was Pacific Lutheran's lone winner in singles as she dispatched Tarika Krishnamurthy by a 6-0, 6-1 score at No. 2. PLU's Katherine Patton pushed Carly Tucker to a third set before losing 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, at No. 5.
La Verne improves to 6-5 and PLU falls to 1-12 following the match.
