PLU qualifies for Division III postseason play by virtue of winning the Northwest Conference championship, the program's seventh title since 1999. The Lutes, under the direction of head coach Kevin Aoki, are 20-5 overall and were ranked fourth in last week's NCAA West Region poll.
The NCAA tournament features 64 teams playing in eight regional sites Nov. 9-11, with the winners of those regionals advancing to the national championship tournament set for Nov. 15-17 in Holland, Mich.
Last year, Pacific Lutheran participated in the regional tournament hosted by Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Cal Lutheran is the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament champion, is the region's top-ranked team and is a strong candidate to host this year's regional event.
