Pacific Lutheran will face Chapman (Calif.) at 12:30 p.m. on Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Division III regional tournament hosted by California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
The tournament continues Saturday with semifinal round action and concludes on Sunday with the regional championship match. The region winner advances, along with the winners of seven other regionals being played around the country, to the national championship tournament set for Nov. 15-17 in Holland, Mich.
The winner of the PLU versus Chapman contest will play the winner of another first-round match featuring Colorado College (23-9) against Puget Sound (19-5), which is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. on Friday. The other Friday first round matchups in the Thousand Oaks Regional are as follows:, Hardin-Simmons (29-3) vs. La Verne (21-5) at 5 p.m., and Southerwestern TX (20-15) vs. California Lutheran (27-4) at 8 p.m.
The Lutes (20-5) qualified for postseason play by virtue of winning their seventh Northwest Conference crown in the past 14 years. Chapman (23-6), which lost to California Lutheran in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship game, received one of 22 at-large bids to the 64-team Division III national tournament.
Pacific Lutheran is one of 42 conference champion teams in the national tournament field.
