HILLSBORO, Ore. - The Northwest Conference office released its first player of the week awards of the 2017-2018 academic year on Tuesday with Pacific Lutheran University volleyball student-athlete Caylie Shiramizu landing the NWC's Defender of the Week award.
The junior defensive specialist led the Lutes (4-0) to an undefeated record over the weekend, leading the team in digs in all four games at the Puget Sound Premiere. Shiramizu was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 5.1 digs per set, including a season-high 24 in the squad's 3-1 win over defending Liberty League Champion Clarkson University on Saturday. The Honolulu, Hawaii native and defending NWC Libero of the Year has now won NWC Player of the Week accolades on four occasions, previously winning the award on Sept. 19, Oct. 17, and Oct. 24, during the 2016 campaign.
The Lutes are back on the court on Friday, facing Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College at 12:30 p.m. to open the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational in Thousand Oaks, California before closing the day with a 3 p.m. match against Whittier College.
