PLU Women Finish 11th at Cross Country Regional
SALEM, Ore. - Pacific Lutheran placed 11th in the women's division at the NCAA Division III West Region Cross Country Championships held Saturday afternoon at Bush's Pasture Park.
As they have all season long, sophomores Suzy Olsen and Katie Gebert paced the Lutes in this meet. Olsen placed 49th overall in a time of 24:10.62, with Gebert two spots back in 24:12.75.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the women's team title with a score of 62, followed by Whitworth with 97 and Whittier at 108. Lewis & Clark College took fourth at 114 and Whitman College followed in fifth at 169. Pacific Lutheran, which was sixth at the Northwest Conference meet two weekends ago, finished sixth among all NWC schools entered in the regional meet with a score of 317.
Annie Lydens of Pomona-Pitzer took first place in the 6000-meter women's race. She completed the course in 21:51.84, followed by Jennifer Tave from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with a time of 21:54.79 and Michele Callaway of Whittier at 21:57.81.
Rounding out the PLU individuals competing in the women's race: Erica Johnson, 67th, 24:35.53; Erin Kuest, 74th, 24:40.59; Jill Kuschel, 82nd, 25:08.82; Allison Young, 96th, 25:36.15; and Alyssa Rowland, 106th, 26:00.44.
Willamette University edged out Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to win the men's title. Willamette finished with a team score of 63, while CMS registered a score of 65. Whitworth took third place with a score of 80. Fourth place went to Colorado College at 98 and Pomona-Pitzer was fifth with a score of 133. Jackson Brainerd of Colorado College won his second consecutive individual men's title with a time of 25:23.17 over the 8-kilometer course.
