WALLA WALLA - Junior Alan DenAdel placed third in the men's division and was Pacific Lutheran's top finisher overall Saturday as the PLU cross country teams competed in the Whitman Invitational held at Fort Walla Walla.
Both PLU teams placed third in their respective three-team divisions. On the men's side, Lewis-Clark State scored 18 points, followed by Whitman with 55 and PLU with 61. The host school won the women's competition with 31 points, followed by Lewis-Clark State with 39 and PLU with 62.
Lewis-Clark State's Dave Marks finished the men's 8000-meter course with a winning 25:55.58, followed by teammate Sam Atkins in 26:57.50 and then DenAdel in 27:21.00.
Senior Kolter Grigsby was PLU's second runner, placing eighth overall with a time of 27:52.72. Other Pacific Lutheran runners were Jordan Steves, 16th overall in 29:14.95, Kyle Smith, 21st in 30:05.41, Eric Herde, 23rd in 30:16.45, and Matt Beal, 29th in 31:53.08.
Lewis-Clark State had the top two finishers in the women's 6000-meter event, Kelsey Klettke winning in 23:41.15 and Chelsey Leighton placing second in 23:56.50.
Other Pacific Lutheran finishers were Lauren Knebel, 11th in 25:40.86, Madison Guscott, 25th in 27:18.97, Alyssa Rowland, 31st in 28:01.71, Jennifer Arbaugh, 32nd in 28:14.23, Karissa Jackson, 33rd in 28:18.87, and Chiara Rose-Witt, 36th in 28:40.08.
The Lutes return to action next Friday night when they compete at the Central Washington University Invitational in Ellensburg.
