ESTACADA, Ore. - Alan DenAdel placed third to lead the Pacific Lutheran cross country runners at the Lewis & Clark Invitational held Saturday at McIver State Park.
The Lutes found out they still have more work to do in preparation for the Northwest Conference Championships, which is scheduled for two weeks from now, after both teams brought up the rear among collegiate teams at today's race.
Despite DenAdel's third-place finish behind Linfield alum Chris McIsaac and Puget Sound's Matt Klein, the PLU men placed fifth among the five collegiate teams. They defeated only the Lewis & Clark alumni team.
Puget Sound won the team title with 40 points, followed by Lewis & Clark wtih 71, Whitman 81, Linfield 82, and PLU with 107. McIsaac won the 8000-meter race in a time of 25:45.76, followed by Klein with 25:54.10 and DenAdel at 26:11.78.
Other finishers for PLU in the 62-runner field were: Kolter Grigsby, 12th, 26:52.47; Jordan Steves, 26th, 27:51.23; Eric Herde, 42nd, 29:15.46; Joseph Mungai, 43rd, 29:19.36; Andy Jensen, 52nd, 30:26.45; Kyle Smith, 53rd, 30:52.60; and Matt Beal, 57th, 32:15.33.
Lewis & Clark showed that it is the team to beat in the Northwest Conference women's division, scoring 27 points to 51 for runner-up Whitman. Rounding out the team scoring were Linfiedl 55, Puget Sound 120 and PLU 130.
Lewis & Clark had the top two finishers in Emily Thomas and Kaitlyn Throgmorton, who clocked 22:23.68 ad 22:52.45 respectively.
Amanda Wilson was the top finisher for the PLU women, placing 15th with a time of 23:54.33 over the 6000-meter course. Other Lutes finishers in the 75-runner field were: Lauren Knebel, 22nd, 24:20.87; Amanda Seely, 35th, 25:05.16; Alyssa Rowland, 48th, 25:48.09; Madison Guscott, 53rd, 26:22.74; Karissa Jackson, 68th, 27:34.36; and Chiara Rose-Witt, 70th, 27:44.54.
PLU takes next Saturday off before racing at the NWC meet scheduled for Oct. 27 in Forest Grove, Ore.
