COMING UP: Pacific Lutheran will be represented by two men and two women at the 2012 West Region Cross Country Championships scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 10, at Oak Knoll Golf Course in Independence, Ore. The men's 8000-meter race starts at 11 a.m. and is followed by the women's 6000 at noon. Willamette University is serving as meet host.
PLU ENTRANTS: On the men's side, junior Alan DenAdel and senior Kolter Grigsby will compete in their second consecutive regional championship race. For the women, freshmen Amanda Wilson and Lauren Knebel will wear the PLU black and gold.
DENADEL RUNNING FOR NATIONAL MEET BERTH: Alan DenAdel will be running for his second consecutive trip to the national championship meet, which this year is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, in Terre Haute, Ind. DenAdel finished 12th at the 2011 West Region meet held in Claremont, Calif., to earn a trip to the Division III national meet in Wisconsin. There, as the first PLU male runner since 2002 to compete at the national championships, he finished 209th. The official press release from the Willamette sports information office lists DenAdel as one of several runners who could contend for the individual men's title.
LUTE TEAMS PLACE NINTH AT CONFERENCE MEET: Alan DenAdel placed second in the men's race, but both Pacific Lutheran teams placed ninth at the Northwest Conference Cross Country Championships held last Saturday at Sunset Grove Golf Course in Forest Grove, Ore. DenAdel, who placed fourth at the 2011 NWC meet, finished the 8000-meter course in a time of 26:03, trailing conference champion Parker Bennett from Willamette, who clocked 25:48. Willamette won the team title with 40 points, followed by Lewis & Clark with 90 and Puget Sound with 96. Rounding out the team scoring were Whitworth 113, George Fox 128, Linfield 143, Whitman 162, Pacific 181 and Pacific Lutheran 205. For PLU, Kolter Grigsby placed 27th with a time of 27:22. Other Pacific Lutheran runners were the following: Jordan Steves, 67th, 28:58; Kyle Smith, 77th, 29:23; Joseph Mungai, 78th, 29:24; Matt Beal, 81st, 30:40; Eric Herde, 82nd, 30:48; and Andy Jensen, 84th, 32:15. Lewis & Clark, with five of the top eight finishers, easily won the women's team championship with 21 points. Emily Thomas clocked 22:37 and Melissa Newton-Mora was second in 22:50 to pace the Pioneers. Rounding out the team scores were Willamette 48, Whitworth 97, Linfield 104, Whitman 107, Puget Sound 187, Pacific 196, George Fox 200 and Pacific Lutheran 240. Amanda Wilson led Pacific Lutheran with a 20th-place performance, clocking 24:04 over 6000 meters. Other PLU finishers were the following: Lauren Knebel, 53rd, 24:47; Alyssa Rowland, 75th, 26:18; Amanda Seely, 77th, 26:47; Madison Guscott, 78th, 26:54; Karissa Jackson, 81st, 27:42; and Chiara Rose-Witt, 82nd, 28:45.
