Cheri Campbell

Cheri Campbell was named the head coach of the Lute women's tennis program prior to the 2018-2019 season.

"I'm excited to welcome Cheri Campbell as our next head women's tennis coach. With her coaching and teaching experience, familiarity with the Northwest, and extensive recruiting network, she will help us continue to move our tennis program forward," said Turner. "Her knowledge of PLU as a current employee will allow her to hit the ground running and her presence on campus will improve the overall student-athlete experience."

Campbell spent the previous eight years as head coach of the tennis program at North Thurston High School. Under her direction, the Rams had state qualifiers in six of those eight years. She additionally owned and operated a tennis club from 2012-2015 and has 10 years experience running tennis camps.

No stranger to PLU, Campbell has been a mental health counselor at the University since 2012 and will continue in that capacity while guiding the Lute women's tennis team.

"I'm very excited for the opportunity to lead the women's tennis program at PLU. Lorrie Wood has created a positive atmosphere which I look forward to continuing," said Campbell. "Having worked in the counseling center since 2012, I have a unique understanding of the PLU community, resources, and challenges that students face that I hope will be helpful in recruiting. That's the next step in building the program, recruiting top players who are looking for a great education, a smaller university setting, and want to be part of a competitive, solid program. I can't wait to get started!"

Campbell owns an associate of arts degree from Tacoma Community College, a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the University of Washington, and a masters of arts in mental health from City University.
