One Streak Ends, But Most Important One Still Alive

NEWBERG, Ore. - George Fox put an end to a Pacific Lutheran streak on Saturday night, but in the end the visiting Lutes kept alive their unbeaten record in Northwest Conference volleyball with a 17-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-17 win over the host Bruins.

Kelsie Moore, playing one-half hour away from her hometown of Oregon City, had a big game for the Lutes with 14 kills and a .407 attack percentage. The win was PLU's 10th without a loss in Northwest Conference play and improved their overall record to 14-5. Prior to tonight's match, the Lutes, ranked No. 16 in Division III volleyball, had won nine straight NWC matches in straight sets. The Bruins ended that streak by winning the opener tonight, but after that it was all Lutes.

Pacific Lutheran hit just .033 in dropping the first set, but it soon had its rhythm going, hitting .379 in the second set and .256 in the third set before settling for a .206 rate in the finale.

In addition to Moore's outstanding performance, both Beth Hanna and Erin Bremond finished the match with 11 kills. Hanna and Blair Bjorkman both contributed 13 digs and Sarah Beaver finished with 43 assists as the Lutes held off the challenge of second-place George Fox (14-4 overall, 7-3 NWC).
