NEWBERG, Ore. - Despite dominating in shots and corner kicks,
the No. 25-ranked Lutes saw their unbeaten Northwest Conference
record ended on Saturday when the George Fox Bruins took a 2-1
decision.
The Lutes (7-3 overall, 4-1 NWC) fell behind 1-0 just 2:04 into
the match when the Bruins' Brennan Altringer scored his fifth
goal of the season on an assist from Brian Story. The Lutes got
that goal back at 9:58 when Chad Kearns scored from Spencer
Augustin's assist, but George Fox (4-6, 1-4) scored the winner
at 23:11 when Story and Altringer switched spots, Story collecting
his first goal of the 2009 campaign.
Pacific Lutheran took 19 shots, including nine on goal, and
limited the Bruins to just eight total shots, three on goal, but
the hosts made the most of their chances. PLU also took seven
corner kicks to just three for the Bruins.
George Fox goalkeeper Jack Maguire collected six saves and his
teammates back him up with two clearances of potential PLU goals.
The Lutes return to action at 1:30 p.m. Sunday when they travel
to Forest Grove, Ore., to face the on-fire Pacific Boxers in
another Northwest Conference match.
