All-Region Volleyball Three-Peat for Hanna

Pacific Lutheran junior outside hitter Beth Hanna (Clackamas, Ore. / Clackamas HS) has earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) West Region First Team honors for the third consecutive season. Two teammates, senior middle blocker Kelcy Joynt (Wasilla, Alaska / Colony HS) and junior setter Sarah Beaver (Gresham, Ore. / Gresham HS) joined her on the first team, and sophomore outside hitter Kelsie Moore (Oregon City, Ore. / Oregon City HS) was named to the honorable mention list.

Hanna averaged a team-best 3.56 kills per set while hitting at a .217 clip for the Lutes. She finished second on the team during the regular season with 3.38 digs per set, and she also contributed 0.53 blocks per set. Hanna, who suffered a season-ending knee injury on Oct. 31, was an AVCA First Team All-American in 2007 and received AVCA Third Team All-America honors last year.

Joynt, recently named the 2009 Northwest Conference Player of the Year, has come back from successive season-ending knee injuries to average 3.28 kills and 3.04 digs per set in 2009. Among the Lutes' top attacking players, she leads the team with a .279 kill percentage. She leads the Lutes with 26 service aces.

Beaver, a junior setter, earned first team all-region recognition for the first time after making the honorable mention list in 2008. Going into today's Division III West Region tournament in Redlands, Calif., Beaver averages 10.10 assists per set while also averaging nearly one kill to go along with a .291 attack percentage.

Moore averages 2.96 kills per set and is hitting .262 for the season. She also averages 2.23 digs per set and is second on the team with 23 service aces.

Hanna, Joynt and Beaver all earned All-Northwest Conference First Team honors, while Moore was an All-NWC Second Team pick.

Pacific Lutheran, 20-6 this year, opens Division III West Region tournament play at 4:30 p.m. today against the University of La Verne Leopards at Currier Gymnasium on the University of Redlands campus in Redlands, Calif. The seven-team tournament concludes Saturday night with the region championship match.
