PORTLAND, Ore. - Alex Limoges finished second in the men's 200
backstroke to lead Pacific Lutheran's effort during Saturday's
first day of the Northwest Invitational being hosted by Lewis &
Clark College.
In the men's division, Whitworth took the first-day lead with
368 points, followed by Puget Sound with 324, Whitman 260, Pacific
Lutheran 162.5, Pacific 142.5, Linfield 128, College of Idaho 115,
Lewis & Clark 106 and Willamette 16.
On the women's side, Puget Sound had a strong first day with 420
points followed by Whitworth with 306. Rounding out the team
scoring were Whitman with 191, Cal State-East Bay 150, Pacific
Lutheran 147, Linfield 146, Lewis & Clark 104, Willamette 80,
Pacific 76 and College of Idaho 18.
Limoges clocked 2:02.50 in his specialty and also swam the
leadoff leg on PLU's third-place 400 medley relay team, which
clocked 3:45.56. Other top individual finishes for the Lutes came
from Jacob Nord, fifth in the 100 freestyle (50.42), Rayan Carter,
seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.57) and Matthew Kim, seventh
in the 200 butterfly (2:14.32). Additionally, the men placed fourth
in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.69).
Casey Jackson had a pair of top-eight finishes to lead the
Pacific Lutheran women. Jackson placed eighth in the 200 individual
medley (2:23.50) and came back later to finish fourth in the 200
backstroke (2:15.01). The Lutes had a pair of top-six finishers in
the 100 breaststroke, Jessie Klauder placing fourth (1:13.43) and
Rachel Troutt taking sixth (1:14.79). The top relay finish for the
PLU women came in the 400 medley where they placed fifth (4:22.96).
The Northwest Invitational concludes Sunday with morning and
evening sessions.
